If the box has never been ticked, this will be NULL as a value rather than a yes/no so that will typically show as blank.

If you toggle the tick box on and then off, this will set it as N rather than NULL.

If the box is ticked, this will show as Y.
Custom Tick Boxes in reports
When running reports custom fields that are tick boxes are showing as Y, N or blank.
