Adjust Placement Shift Times – Automatic Empty Shift removal
We've added a helpful new feature to make managing your job schedules easier. When you adjust placement shift times, you can now automatically remove old, empty shifts without having to clean them up manually.
Background
The Adjust Placement Shift Times wizard allows you to modify placement details including shift types, rates, and timings across multiple placements. When adjustments create new shifts, the original shifts previously remained on the schedule even when empty, requiring manual cleanup.
Automatic Shift Cleanup Option
When adjusting placement shift times that will create new shifts, you can now:
Automatically remove empty original shifts using a new checkbox in Step 2 of the wizard.
The checkbox is labelled 'Remove original shifts when empty' and is checked by default.
An information tooltip explains: 'When checked, if new Shifts have been added, then the original Shifts will be automatically removed if they have only one place and become empty after moving Placements'.
Enhanced Confirmation Messages
If no shifts were removed: 'Shift adjustments submitted successfully'.
If shifts were automatically removed: 'Shift adjustments submitted successfully, [X] empty Shifts were automatically removed' (where X is the count of removed shifts).
How It Works
The system will only remove original shifts when:
The checkbox is checked (default).
New shifts have been created.
The original shift has only one place/requirement.
The original shift becomes empty after moving placements.
Shifts with multiple places/requirements are never automatically deleted, even if empty.
How to Access
From Scheduling 2.0: Scheduling 2.0 > 3-dot menu on any Job > Adjust Placement Shift Times.
From Placement Manager: Placements > Placement Manager > Contract/Temp Manager > 3-dot menu on any Placement > Adjust Placement Shift Times.
Then:
Select Placements on Step 1.
Click Next to Step 2.
Make your adjustments.
Review the Remove original shifts when empty checkbox setting.
Click Confirm.
Adjust Placement Shift Times – Create Audit of Changes
Summary
An audit trail has been implemented for the 'Adjust Placement Shift Times' wizard to track all changes made to placement shifts, creating a comprehensive record for reporting and analysis purposes.
What's Changed
When consultants adjust placement shift times using the 'Adjust Placement Shift Times' wizard and confirm their changes in step 2, the system now automatically creates a detailed audit log for each adjusted shift row per placement.
Audit Information Captured
Applicant ID, Placement ID, and Shift IDs (current and new).
Shift details including Type, Title, Date, Start Time, End Time, and Rate (both current and new values).
User who made the changes.
Timestamp of when changes were made.

Consultants will notice no functional change to the wizard workflow. The audit logging operates automatically in the background, ensuring full traceability of all shift time adjustments for compliance and reporting purposes.
Contract Rate Changes Where Shift Level Rates Are Applied
What's New
You can now change the Contract Rate on a job even when individual shifts have their own rate overrides applied. The system will guide you through the process with clear warnings and choices, helping you maintain control over your rate structures.
Previously, if you had set custom rates on individual shifts, you couldn't change the main Contract Rate on the job without encountering errors. This meant you had to manually remove shift rates before updating the job rate, which was time-consuming and confusing.
Now, the system handles this situation intelligently, warning you about the impact and giving you the choice to proceed or cancel.
When you create a contract job, you typically set a Contract Rate that applies to all shifts. However, you can also apply custom rates to individual shifts (for example, a higher rate for evening shifts or weekend work). These are called 'shift-level rate overrides' or 'shift rates'.
When shift-level rates exist and you try to change the main Contract Rate on the job, the system needs to know what to do with those custom shift rates. Should they stay? Should they be removed? This update gives you control over that decision.
How It Works
You can change the Contract Rate on a job when:
All shifts are unfilled (no workers have been placed on any shifts). In this case, you'll see a warning message before the change is made, giving you the option to continue or cancel.
The Warning Message
When you try to change or remove the Contract Rate on a job that has shift-level rate overrides, you'll see this message:
The rate overrides will be removed from all Shifts. Do you want to continue?
You have two choices:
Click Yes:
The new Contract Rate will be applied to the job.
All shift-level rate overrides will be removed from every shift.
The shifts will now use the new Contract Rate.
Click No:
The change will be cancelled.
Everything stays as it was.
No rates are updated.
When You Cannot Change the Contract Rate
You cannot change the Contract Rate if any shifts have workers placed on them (placements exist). In this case, you'll see an error message:
Contract Rates cannot be changed because Placements exist for this Job.
Click OK to close the error message. No changes will be made.
Important Things to Know
What Happens to Shift Rates:
When you change the Contract Rate and click Yes to the warning:
All custom rates on individual shifts are removed.
Every shift will use the new Contract Rate.
You can re-apply custom shift rates afterwards if needed.
Protection for Active Placements:
You cannot change the Contract Rate if workers are already placed on any shifts. This protects:
Existing worker agreements.
Payroll consistency.
Contract terms already in place.
If you need to change rates for jobs with active placements, you'll need to handle this differently (contact your administrator for guidance).
Jobs Without Shift Rate Overrides:
If your job doesn't have any shift-level rate overrides, you can change the Contract Rate as normal without seeing any warnings. The process works just as it did before.
Placeholder Text change for Shift Rates
What's New?
We've improved how the system displays shift rate information when no default rate has been set. Instead of showing a confusing 'Job basic rate is applied' message, you'll now see a clearer 'Rate not Applied' message, making it easier to understand when rates still need to be assigned.
What's Changed
Old Behaviour:
When a shift had no default rate assigned, you would see:
'Basic Rate is applied' or
'Job Basic Rate is applied'.
This was misleading because it implied a rate was active when it wasn't.
New Behaviour
When a shift has no default rate assigned, you now see:
'Rate not Applied'.
This clearly indicates that no rate has been set and you may need to configure one.
Where You'll See This Change
Adjust Placement Shift Times Wizard:
When you're adjusting placement shift times in Step 2 (Adjust Placements), if a shift doesn't have a default rate, the 'Rate Override' column will show Rate not Applied.
This appears in the shift details grid.
Everything else works the same way.
Placements:
Placements ; Placement Manager ; Contract/Temp Manager ; 3-dot menu on any placement ; Adjust Placement Shift Times.
Temp Management ; Scheduling 2.0 ; 3-dot menu on any job ; Adjust Placement Shift Times.
Broadcast Shifts Wizard:
When you're broadcasting shifts to applicants in Step 1 (Select Shifts), if a shift doesn't have a default rate, the 'Shift Rate' column will show Rate not Applied.
This appears in the shifts selection grid.
Everything else works the same way.
Scheduling 2.0 - Shift Details View:
When you click into a shift to view its details in Scheduling 2.0, if the shift doesn't have a default rate, the 'Shift Rate' field will show Rate not Applied.
This appears in the shift information panel.
Everything else works the same way.
